• Harrison College Announcement at Business After Hours

  Harrison College is proud to announce that today at the Indianapolis Chamber Business After Hours, the “Tackling Adult Illiteracy” campaign in partnership with the Indianapolis Colts and supporting Indy Reads was introduced. With this campaign, and furthering its mission of community advocacy in education, Harrison College will donate $26 to Indy Reads for every tackle that Colts player #26, Kelvin Hayden, makes during the 2010 season.

  Indy Reads, a Central Indiana nonprofit, is dedicated to assisting the more than 100,000 adults in Marion County who are not functionally literate. The non-profit has been working to “make Indianapolis 100% literate” since 1984, tutoring almost 1,000 adults in 2009. For every $1 donated to Indy Reads, an estimated $33 is returned to the community through increased wages and savings.

• Indy Reads 4th Annual Spelling Bee

  October 26

  Indy Reads 4th Annual Spelling Bee, presented by Duke Energy, will take place October 26th, at the Hyatt in downtown Indy. Doors open at 5:30 with dinner and social hour from 6pm to 7pm.  Enjoy dinner and attend the Spelling Bee for fun at $20 / ticket or create a team and participate in the competition. All proceeds benefit Indy Reads.

  Competition is anticipated at over 50 teams from local businesses and non-profits participating, all spelling to raise money in support of Indy Reads. Visit the Indy Reads website to learn how your organization can participate.

  The Indy Reads Spelling Bee is an opportunity to have fun while contributing to good cause— improved literacy for adults in our community who need help with reading, writing, or English as a second language.
